Carina Sarri was the first preschool teacher at the first Sami school in Kiruna, Sweden. She taught children to respect nature by animating the water, forest, trees and plants through storytelling. Her preschoolers learned how to use knives and lassos and many have grown to be leaders in the reindeer herding community, such as Niila Inga. Now retired, she helps her family at Nikkaloukta, a Sami village and mountain station between the communites of Laevas and Girjas. She remembers being a teenager and spending time at the Tarfala Research Station, where her father worked as a handyman and her mother cooked. At that time the glacier reached the valley. Now it is a tiny speck in the distance. July 22, 2019. Nikkaloukta, Sweden. Elisa Ferrari
