Bill Berkson is the author of Portrait and Dream: New & Selected Poems. He is a poet and critic and lives in San Francisco and New York. From 1984 to 2008 he was professor of liberal arts at the San Francisco Art Institute. He is a corresponding editor for Art in America and a contributor to Artforum, Aperture and Artcritical.com. His other recent books include Sudden Address: Selected Lectures: 1981-2006; Goods and Services; and Bill, a words-and-images collaboration with Colter Jacobsen. He was the 2006 Distinguished Mellon Fellow at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and received the 2008 Goldie award for literature from the San Francisco Bay Guardian.
